Assignment description and main responsibilities
As a Health and Safety Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of employees, visitors, and the environment within the organization. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health and safety programs, policies, and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards. Your expertise will help maintain compliance with regulatory standards and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Deliveries
Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis:

• Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential health, safety, and environmental risks in the workplace.
• Collaborate with relevant departments to develop strategies for mitigating identified risks.

Safety Program Development and Implementation:

• Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the organization's specific needs and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure that safety protocols are effectively communicated to all employees and stakeholders.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Stay abreast of local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards through regular audits, inspections, and training programs.

Incident Investigation and Reporting:

• Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental incidents.
• Identify root causes and contributing factors and develop corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future occurrences.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of all incidents and corrective actions.

Safety Training and Education:

• Develop and deliver training programs on various health and safety topics, including hazard recognition, emergency response, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
• Provide ongoing education and awareness initiatives to promote a safety-conscious culture among employees.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

• Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, natural disasters, and medical emergencies.
• Conduct drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency response plans and train employees in proper procedures.

Safety Monitoring and Performance Evaluation:

• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of health and safety programs.
• Monitor safety performance, analyze trends, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Relay information between management, outside safety agencies and employees, communicating vital information and instructions quickly and accurately.

Competence requirements

• Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist) are preferred.
• Proven experience in occupational health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
• Awareness of ISO environment regulations and principles
