Momentum finally moves
Apparently, all BPMI needed was for me to complain that nothing was happening. 😂
The 3-month trend is still hovering around 115. But the latest monthly reading has finally moved.
September 2026:
📈 Latest month: 122 (+7.6 vs August)
📊 3-month trend: 115 (−0.2 vs August)
The monthly index rose markedly, while the broader 3-month trend remains stable at a relatively high level. Both readings are well above 100, which represents the historical average.
All three components increased in September:
• Project Activity: 143 (+11.1)
The share of assignments for roles that typically enter early in new projects increased further. This is now the strongest component of BPMI and may be an early signal of more project activity ahead – if the model works as intended.
• Supply Pressure: 102 (+4.0)
The share of assignments receiving few or no applications decreased, bringing Supply Pressure slightly above its historical average. This may partly reflect consultants becoming more active again after the summer.
• Project Intensity: 114 (+6.8)
The assignments published in September appear larger or more competence-intensive than in August. This component is also now clearly above its historical average.
My cautious reading is that momentum strengthened in September, driven particularly by early project activity. Projects also appear somewhat larger or more competence-intensive, while competition among consultants returned to slightly above its historical average.
One strong month does not make a trend, though. The 3-month index is still stubbornly close to 115.
But at least BPMI has now demonstrated that it can move.
